About the position

The Faculty Developer/Instructional Designer at Valencia College serves as an internal consultant to faculty, focusing on the conceptualization, design, development, delivery, and assessment of high-quality courses across various modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. This role is pivotal in partnering with campus and college Faculty and Instructional Development (F&ID) staff to create and implement comprehensive programs and curricula that foster excellence and innovation in teaching, learning, technology, and scholarship. The position is based at the Poinciana Campus in Kissimmee, FL, and operates under a full-time schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The Faculty Developer/Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and delivering programs that develop faculty competencies essential to a Valencia Educator. This includes providing consultation and support for faculty in curriculum development, instructional design, and the effective use of digital technologies. The role requires collaboration to achieve established goals for the Campus Center(s) for Teaching/Learning Innovation and involves managing multiple course development projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to best practices in instructional design. In addition to course design, the position entails supervising the production of learning resources in various formats, supporting academic departments in innovative teaching strategies, and conducting ongoing program assessments to identify strengths and areas for improvement. The Faculty Developer also plays a crucial role in supporting faculty through the tenure process and acts as a system administrator for select software, addressing user issues and maintaining the Faculty Development Library Collection. This position may also involve supervising and evaluating assigned staff, contributing to a collaborative and supportive educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, delivers and implements programs, courses, resources, and services to develop faculty in the Essential Competencies of a Valencia Educator.
  • Works collaboratively to achieve established goals and outcomes for Campus Center(s) for Teaching/Learning Innovation.
  • Provides consultation and development for faculty in the design of course/program curricula and pedagogies in all instructional modalities according to established best practices.
  • Provides consultation for faculty in the selection and effective use of digital technologies, in all instructional modalities, according to established best practices.
  • Effectively manages multiple course development projects from inception to completion, in accordance with established instructional design and curriculum development processes.
  • Designs and supervises production of learning resources in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video and animation technologies to support curriculum development and learning-centered course design.
  • Researches, articulates, and disseminates innovative best practices in faculty development, teaching, learning and technology, in all instructional modalities.
  • Develops and implements ongoing program assessment, to understand the program's strengths and weaknesses and to establish a model of evidence-based program improvement.
  • Supports faculty in the tenure process in conjunction with the Teaching/Learning Academy team.
  • Acts as system administrator for select campus-based and college-wide software, collecting and compiling problems, issues and user requests associated with software and hardware.
  • Maintains the Faculty Development Library Collection to include recommending hardware and software for the Center for Teaching/Learning Innovation.
  • Assists faculty and staff in the development and improvement of course/program curriculum, learning outcomes and assessment activities in collaboration with F&ID staff, faculty, and other campus and college-wide colleagues.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Progressively responsible experience teaching in a higher education setting or commensurate experience.
  • Experience in instructional design methodologies and course and curriculum design in all modalities (face-to-face, hybrid and online), including learning outcome development and curriculum alignment.
