About the position

The Faculty Fellow at Houston Methodist Academic Institute serves as a bridge between the Post-Doctoral Fellowship program and the Independent Scientist track. This role allows for independent grant submissions and publications, oversight of projects, and professional development. The Faculty Fellow will lead research assistants and technicians while mentoring Post-Doctoral Fellows, with a position duration of two years.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and provide technical direction to research staff under the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Educate and train new staff members, including physicians, on system usage and ongoing training as needed.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate laboratory research projects.
  • Compile, write, and submit project results to the Principal Investigator after data analysis and interpretation.
  • Assist with the implementation and education of departmental safety initiatives and standards of practice.
  • Review scientific literature related to the field and ensure grant applications meet NIH guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities for corrective action and process improvement.
  • Participate in writing manuscripts and publications, and independently publish in relevant journals.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) in a medical field from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of postdoctoral fellow experience, with at least one year at Houston Methodist Academic Institute.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English, both written and spoken, necessary for effective communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in grant writing and securing independent funding.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software.
