About the position

The Faculty Group Practice X-Ray Tech at NYU Langone Health is responsible for performing medically prescribed radiographic procedures while ensuring patient safety and comfort. This role involves maintaining the cleanliness of the workspace, managing supplies, and adhering to hospital protocols and regulations. The X-Ray Tech will work closely with patients and medical staff to provide high-quality imaging services and support the overall mission of improving human health through medical education and patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform medically prescribed radiographic procedures.
  • Maintain supplies and cleanliness of the workspace; restock supplies as needed.
  • Notify supervisor of any shortage of supplies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to radiology.
  • Correctly choose appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Access patient information such as appointment times, type of exam, and patient reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality on privileged matters.
  • Document begin, complete, and departure times in the RIS as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of film library functions and HIS for patient data verification.
  • Schedule exams in RIS from the order entry queue and modify exams when necessary.
  • Assess patients' information and status and follow appropriate procedures accordingly.
  • Identify the correct patient using two identifiers: full name and birth date.
  • Check patient's wristband to ensure ID matches examination requisition.
  • Introduce self to the patient and review patient's requisition for understanding of the required exam.
  • Seek assistance from supervisor regarding difficult or questionable results.
  • Follow accepted radiologic procedures and use medical information to determine the type of protocol required for radiographic examination.
  • Consult policy and procedure manuals to ensure actions conform to established protocols.
  • Follow special instructions indicated on radiographic requisition.
  • Implement patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards.
  • Explain the procedure and equipment to the patient clearly and answer questions to ensure understanding.
  • Provide for patient comfort before, during, and after the procedure and maintain rapport throughout.
  • Position patient and radiographic equipment appropriately and adjust settings for maximum information.
  • Use lead markers appropriately and ensure all x-rays are of high quality.
  • Perform transmission and/or segmentation for transmission to PACS in a complete and proper anatomic display.
  • Generate high-quality hard copies of images when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the radiographic area and prepare equipment for future exams.
  • Alter work schedule for STAT and emergency cases as needed.
  • Recognize medical emergencies and notify appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of proper radiation safety procedures and incorporate them into all radiographic procedures.
  • Use gonadal shielding on all patients whenever possible and restrict beam exposure appropriately.
  • Maintain radiation detection badges and rings and return them as required.
  • Perform visual and manual quality control checks of X-ray equipment.
  • Report any malfunctioning of the equipment and notify appropriate persons.
  • Maintain cooperative and professional relationships with patients, physicians, nurses, and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certificate from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Florida State license or temporary permit to practice Diagnostic Radiology.
  • ARRT Certification.
  • 2 years of experience in a related field.
