About the position

The position involves teaching Kinesiology in the Division of Health Sciences & Athletics at El Camino College, with a focus on athletics, fitness/wellness, health, first aid, exercise science, and recreation. Additionally, the role includes serving as an assistant coach for either men's baseball or basketball, providing instruction and mentoring to student-athletes, and ensuring compliance with athletic standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Kinesiology courses in the Division of Health Sciences & Athletics.
  • Serve as assistant men's baseball coach or assistant basketball coach.
  • Provide instruction, mentoring, and coaching to student-athletes.
  • Evaluate individual and team performance and refine strategies throughout the season.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling competitions, tournaments, and events.
  • Establish and maintain safety standards for student-athletes and facilities.
  • Provide immediate assistance to injured student-athletes and document injuries.
  • Support academic progress and retention of student-athletes through mentoring activities.
  • Assist with the recruiting process for prospective student-athletes.
  • Develop and manage the subject sport team budget and expenses.
  • Ensure compliance with CCCAA regulations and report violations as necessary.
  • Promote interest and attendance at athletic events and assist in fundraising efforts.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, or related field; OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in a life science or related field; OR Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject.
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of diversity within student populations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated successful coaching experience at the university, community college, or high school level.
  • Recent coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
