About the position

The Faculty Member in Communications at Frederick Community College is responsible for creating a premier, student-centered learning environment that caters to diverse educational needs. This full-time position involves teaching a range of communication courses, fostering student engagement, and contributing to curriculum development. The faculty member will also participate in community engagement and professional development activities, ensuring a high-quality educational experience for students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core introductory general education and advanced courses in Communication.
  • Facilitate student mastery of core learning outcomes using relevant pedagogical tools.
  • Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
  • Engage students in critical thinking and advancement of communication skills.
  • Model open-minded inquiry and appreciation for diverse perspectives.
  • Infuse multicultural perspectives into the instructional process.
  • Engage in community enhancement activities.
  • Provide service to support the College mission.
  • Serve on committees and participate in department meetings.
  • Maintain currency in academic discipline through professional organizations and development opportunities.
  • Mentor adjunct faculty members and students regarding general education programs.
  • Serve as a resource for transfer credit evaluations related to Communication.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Communication or related field.
  • One year or 15 credit hours of college teaching experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Earned Ph.D. in Communication or related discipline.
  • Two years or 24 credit hours of college teaching experience.
  • Evidence of teaching in areas such as speech, conflict management, or communication theory.
  • Engagement in professional academic associations.
  • Ability to use diverse instructional styles in a multicultural environment.
  • Evidence of service and engagement outside the classroom.
  • Experience or interest in alternative instructional models.
