About the position

The Faculty position in Biostatistics at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is a full-time role that involves conducting research in biostatistics and bioinformatics theory and methods. The successful candidate will apply these methods to both basic scientific discovery and the advancement of applied sciences, contributing to the goals of the Clinical Systems Biology Group and the Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine. This role requires generating and reporting data, leading or assisting in the preparation and publication of research findings in scientific journals, and collaborating with other scientists to determine the most effective research processes. The faculty member will also support the development of advanced computational methods and tools, maintain the daily operation of computational infrastructure, and manage data effectively. In addition to research responsibilities, the faculty member will be expected to teach courses in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, engaging with students in both classroom and laboratory settings. The position also involves communicating research discoveries through presentations at scientific meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals. The faculty member will operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensure proper record-keeping practices for research data, and assist in modifying research methodologies as needed. Overall, this position is integral to advancing the research and educational missions of NSU.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research in biostatistics and/or bioinformatics theory and method, applying them to scientific discovery and applied sciences.
  • Generate and report data and results, leading or assisting in the preparation and publication of research findings.
  • Support the development of advanced computational methods and tools, collaborating with other scientists on research processes.
  • Maintain daily operations of computational infrastructure and data management, including web servers and databases.
  • Coordinate and implement research support activities associated with assigned projects.
  • Communicate research discoveries through presentations and publications in scientific journals.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment properly.
  • Identify issues in research protocols and assist in modifying methodologies as needed.
  • Construct, evaluate, collect, manage, and retain research data, ensuring good record-keeping practices.
  • Teach courses in the College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, quantitative sciences, engineering, computational biology, computer science, molecular biology, or related fields.
  • Zero to two years of research experience in the application of biostatistics and/or bioinformatics.
  • Expertise in biostatistical and/or bioinformatics analysis.
  • Knowledge of algorithm development, computer programming, software engineering, and biological research.
  • Skilled in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent thought.
  • Ability to develop applications for biological data analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to connect and apply scientific knowledge in research.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals and technical procedures; write reports and manuals; and effectively present information.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply them to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.
