About the position

The Fair Lending Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering all aspects of Equity Bank's Fair Lending Program. This role ensures adherence to fair lending and banking laws and regulations while upholding ethical practices across various product lines, including mortgage, small business, auto lending, personal loans, and retail products. The officer assists in the compliance program, responds to compliance inquiries, and maintains knowledge of federal and state regulations to support the bank's compliance efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the Bank's Fair Lending Policy and Program, serving as the primary contact for fair lending matters.
  • Develops and implements monitoring routines and procedures for the Fair Lending Program tailored to each product line.
  • Performs analyses to detect potential discrimination in loan underwriting, pricing, and loss mitigation outcomes.
  • Investigates concerns by reviewing loan files and reporting findings to stakeholders.
  • Leads fair lending risk assessments and documentation in the bank's analytics and GRC software.
  • Monitors credit risk, marketing, and pricing models to ensure they are free of discriminatory practices.
  • Responds to Fair Lending compliance questions from Bank personnel.
  • Ensures compliance with Regulation B, HMDA, the Fair Housing Act, UDAAP, and state fair lending laws.
  • Provides training and guidance to Bank staff on fair lending practices and policies.
  • Prepares and presents reports to the Board and senior leadership on program performance and risks.
  • Assists the Chief Compliance Officer and CRA Officer with compliance issues and risk mitigation controls.
  • Completes projects as assigned by the department manager in a timely manner.
  • Represents the Bank with integrity, professionalism, and technical expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in law, finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience of at least 5 years in a compliance role with expertise in fair lending.
  • Comprehensive understanding of fair lending laws including Regulation B, HMDA, Fair Housing Act, UDAAP, and state fair lending laws.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and presentation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience interacting with Board members and senior leadership.
  • Proven track record in implementing or contributing to a fair lending program, with experience in mortgage, auto, personal, and/or retail credit lending.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree and/or relevant certifications (e.g., CRCM) would be a plus.
