About the position

The Family Advocate is responsible for recruiting and enrolling eligible families into the Head Start/Early Head Start program, providing comprehensive case management services, and empowering families to achieve self-sufficiency. This role involves identifying the needs of families, connecting them with community resources, and ensuring compliance with child health requirements. The Family Advocate actively participates in parent engagement activities and collaborates with various stakeholders to support family participation and address attendance concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit eligible children for the Head Start/Early Head Start program.
  • Complete applications, parent interviews, and the enrollment process.
  • Schedule, facilitate, and document Project Spotlight in accordance with procedures.
  • Provide case management to support families in identifying needs and goals.
  • Collaborate with health services staff to ensure compliance with child health requirements.
  • Connect families with community resources to meet basic needs in times of crisis.
  • Document all aspects of the case management process in ChildPlus.net.
  • Assist in scheduling initial home visits for the teaching team as required.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update child/family files/records in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Support families in coordinating and participating in Parent Family and Community Engagement Experiences.
  • Collaborate with the Parent, Family and Community Engagement Committee to ensure parent engagement activities occur.
  • Document and provide follow-up on excessive absenteeism and attendance concerns.
  • Submit reports, documents, and files as directed.
  • Maintain open and positive communication with families through ongoing contact and interaction.
  • Participate in community activities/events that support families and enhance program awareness.
  • Act as an advocate and role model for Head Start/Early Head Start families.
  • Attend and actively participate in training programs, staff meetings, and other meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of client, staff, and agency information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Credential or certification in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, counseling, or related field preferred.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and insurable by the company's current carrier.
  • First Aid and CPR certified.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of early childhood issues.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and human/family needs.
