About the position

The Family Based Care Specialist is responsible for conducting home assessments and providing pre-service training for foster care divisions. This role involves responding to home assessment requests, interviewing foster parents, and ensuring compliance with licensure standards through training and documentation. The specialist plays a crucial role in the ongoing development of foster parent orientation and must maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, and crisis intervention techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to the division's Clinical Supervisor and/or Unit Administrator within 48 hours of receiving the Home Assessment Request form.
  • Complete and document initial foster parent interviews.
  • Conduct Home Assessments and narratives for the Foster Care divisions, including community references and necessary forms.
  • Submit Home Assessment Narratives and completed paperwork within 5 working days of completing the assessment.
  • Participate in the ongoing development of agency foster parent orientation training to meet licensure standards.
  • Conduct required foster parent orientation training for the Treatment Foster Care divisions.
  • Submit paperwork to verify foster parents' attendance at orientation training to the Clinical Supervisor or Unit Administrator.
  • Maintain trainer status for CPR, Standard First Aid, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - CPI, and PRIDE.
  • Coordinate and notify potential foster parent applicants of home assessment and orientation training dates.
  • Inform division representatives of potential foster parent applicants' status.
  • Conduct CPR and Standard First Aid training during new personnel staff training and agency foster parent orientation training.
  • Submit monthly tracking report form to the supervisor by the first working day of the month.
  • Provide ongoing marketing of the foster care program.
  • Attend all required functions as attendance is essential to the job.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.W.) in the Human Services field from a four-year college or university.
  • One to two years of related experience and/or training.
  • Valid Social Work License.
  • Knowledge of culture and its function in human behavior and society.
  • Ability to deliver culturally sensitive services.
  • Demonstrated ability to build respectful partnerships with clients and their families.
  • Conviction in the capacity of people to grow and change.
  • Ability to work in partnership with team members.
  • Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role.
