About the position

The Family Caseworker I position at Tlingit & Haida Tribal Family & Youth Services involves providing case management to tribal members and their families. The role focuses on making appropriate referrals to community resources, conducting foster care licensing studies, and ensuring compliance with the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). This position is essential for supporting the welfare of children and families within the tribal community.

Responsibilities

• Provide para-professional case management to tribal members and their families.
• Recruit prospective foster and adoptive parents.
• Conduct foster care licensing studies and adoption home studies.
• Review notifications and petitions involving dependent Indian children and take appropriate ICWA action.
• Coordinate with state social service agencies, school district personnel, and other tribal organizations on child and family matters.
• Explain T&H foster care, adoption, and ICWA programs to individuals and agencies.
• Provide regular activity reports to supervisor and may serve on special committees.
• Maintain confidential case records and compile statistical information.
• Distribute, receive, and review financial assistance applications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) or closely related field.
• Valid Driver's License.
• 2 years of experience as a Family Service Worker I or equivalent may substitute for the degree.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of Federal Indian Child Welfare Act and its implementation.
• Experience in child protective services and social work practices.
