About the position

The Family Child Care Instructional Coach (Bilingual English/Cantonese) plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of family childcare programs in San Francisco. This position involves partnering with childcare educators to provide individualized coaching, training, and support aimed at improving program quality and child outcomes. The coach will facilitate professional development, assist in goal setting, and contribute to the development of resources that align with the unique needs of each educator and the standards set by quality improvement partners.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate training and small group cohorts of FCC educators to foster knowledge of best practices.
  • Provide coaching and modeling, integrating observation, reflection, and feedback.
  • Encourage and support FCC educators to develop goals for program improvement and translate those goals into actionable Quality Improvement Plans.
  • Assist FCC programs to understand and engage with community supports such as mental health and public health services.
  • Support FCC educators' efforts to interpret assessment and child screening tool data to inform ongoing program improvement.
  • Design curriculum, training, and resources based on educator needs linked to system-wide quality improvement goals.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to coordinate services for FCC educators and facilitate linkages to professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities with other coaches and community partners to stay updated on best practices.
  • Develop and maintain project work plans, budgets, and reports to ensure grant requirements are met.
  • Gather, track, and report data related to coaching and professional development, creating quarterly reports for funders.
  • Identify and ensure continuous improvement related to internal processes and program design.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, or related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with Family Child Care programs and supports.
  • Proficiency with childcare assessment tools such as FCCERS, CLASS, DRDP, and expertise in curriculum development and quality improvement planning.
  • Specialization/certification in Developmental Assessment, Curriculum Development, or California CSEFEL/Teaching Pyramid.
  • Demonstrated understanding and high-level experience working with adult learning concepts and strategies.
  • Experience developing and delivering training, coaching, and peer learning facilitation for adult learners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products including Excel and PowerPoint, and comfort using technology for client interactions.
  • Project management skills including effective time management and data entry for report creation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Cantonese is preferred.
  • Experience with reflective practices and activity-based education.
