The Family Coach (Human Services Case Manager) position at the Oregon Department of Human Services focuses on providing resources and services to assist individuals and families in overcoming poverty and achieving independence. This role involves working collaboratively with families, assessing their needs, and connecting them with various support programs. The position emphasizes a strength-based approach and cultural competency to ensure respectful and effective service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centered, strength-based practice to assist families transitioning to independence.
  • Engage families through individual and family assessments to identify attainable goals.
  • Collaborate with other state agencies and community organizations to provide comprehensive support.
  • Determine eligibility for various assistance programs as necessary.
  • Negotiate coaching contracts with adults in the home to support employment goals.
  • Evaluate employability readiness and provide meaningful referrals to employment services.
  • Maintain knowledge of employment services and community resources to meet family needs.
  • Provide culturally appropriate services that respect the dignity of individuals and families.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field; OR a bachelor's degree in any field with one year of human services related experience; OR an associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field with two years of human services related experience; OR three years of human services related experience.
  • Experience with strength-based case management and assessing customers' strengths and service needs.
  • Experience conducting community visits and working collaboratively with community partners and families.
  • Ability to organize work efficiently, prioritize tasks, and manage competing deadlines.
  • Experience maintaining professionalism and compassion while serving customers experiencing stress or trauma.
  • Knowledge of ODHS programs and community resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual skills are encouraged but not required, with a 5% differential pay for bilingual duties.
