About the position

Slate & Associates, Attorneys at Law, is a leading family law firm located in Deer Park, TX, dedicated to providing compassionate and professional legal services to clients facing challenging family law issues. We are currently seeking an experienced Family Law Paralegal to join our team. This full-time, in-office position is essential to our operations as we continue to grow and serve our clients effectively. The ideal candidate will assist our attorneys in various capacities, including drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, and managing case files. As a Family Law Paralegal, you will be responsible for meeting with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases. You will conduct interviews with clients and witnesses, preparing summaries of their statements to ensure that all relevant information is documented accurately. Your role will also involve drafting a variety of legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits, and subpoenas, as well as preparing and responding to discovery requests. This includes gathering and organizing documents, evaluating their relevance, and ensuring that sensitive information is redacted appropriately. In addition to document preparation, you will assist attorneys during hearings, depositions, mediations, and trial preparations. Your presence at these events will be crucial, as you will help ensure that all necessary materials are in order and that the attorneys are well-prepared. Conducting legal research and gathering relevant case information will also be part of your responsibilities, along with proofreading legal documents for accuracy and completeness. You will maintain an accurate record of billable hours and schedule appointments and court proceedings for the attorneys. This position requires a proactive approach and the ability to perform various duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of our legal team.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases
  • Conduct interviews of clients and witnesses and prepare summaries of their statements
  • Draft legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, interrogatories, subpoenas, and legal briefs
  • Prepare and respond to discovery requests, including gathering and organizing documents, evaluating documents for relevance and privilege, and redacting sensitive information
  • E-file pleadings and motions according to local judicial procedures
  • Assist attorneys with hearings, depositions, mediations, and trial preparations
  • Attend hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials when needed
  • Conduct legal research and gather relevant case information
  • Proofread legal documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, depositions, mediations, and court proceedings for attorneys
  • Maintain accurate record of billable hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 3+ years of Texas Family Law experience preferred
  • ABA-approved paralegal certificate, Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies, or Bachelor's degree desired
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills
  • Strong legal research skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Applications
  • Proficient with Adobe DC
  • Experience with Clio (preferred)
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times
