This role is crucial in helping parents navigate the complexities of the referral, evaluation, and eligibility processes, as well as the Individualized Education Program (IEP) development. In this position, the Family Outreach Representative will address inquiries from new parents regarding special education programming and assist them in understanding the transfer process. They will work closely with parents to facilitate discussions about their child's needs and collaborate with community agencies to identify additional resources. The representative will also represent the Office of Programs for Exceptional Children at various division and community events, ensuring that the voice of families is heard and considered in decision-making processes. Attendance at Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) meetings is required, along with providing logistical support as needed. Training for parents regarding the special education process will be a key responsibility, as well as locating and training surrogate parents for IEP meetings.
