About the position
The Family Peer Advocate position is a full-time role focused on assisting caregivers of children with mental health concerns. The advocate will help develop coping and advocacy skills in both home and community settings, aiming to foster family cohesion and build natural support systems.
Responsibilities
- Assist caregivers of children with mental health concerns in developing coping and advocacy skills.
- Support families in navigating community resources.
- Foster family cohesion and build natural support systems.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience as a parent or primary caregiver with direct responsibility for a child with emotional or behavioral issues.
- Begin the level one Family Peer Advocate training and application process to become a provisionally certified family peer advocate.
- Meet NYS Office of Mental Health's Family Peer Advocate credential within 18 months of employment.
Nice-to-haves
- Certified or Provisionally Certified Family Peer Advocate
- Experience working with parents and families of children with special needs.
- Experience navigating community resources.
