About the position

The Family Resources Specialist at Illinois Action for Children (IAFC) plays a crucial role in the IDHS Child Care Assistance Program, focusing on assisting parents and childcare providers. This position involves assessing eligibility, authorizing payments, and maintaining accurate records while ensuring compliance with organizational standards. The specialist is expected to provide excellent customer service and educate stakeholders about the program, all while promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and determine parent and provider eligibility for child care assistance.
  • Authorize payments for child care as per IDHS policies and procedures.
  • Prepare accurate documentation related to parent/provider eligibility and notifications.
  • Create and maintain complete and accurate records for each case in the assigned caseload.
  • Inform parents and providers about program operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Educate parents and providers on the IDHS Child Care Assistance Program and respond to inquiries.
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents and providers over the phone or in person.
  • Link parents with Parent Consultant teams for high-quality childcare consultations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of parent and provider information.
  • Execute workplace core capabilities of accountability, customer focus, and communication.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and two years of experience in customer service, data entry, social work, or related field OR Associate's degree OR 60 college credit hours.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of phone calls and interruptions.
  • Experience dealing with difficult or irate callers.

  • Bilingual - Spanish & Polish preferred.
