About the position

The Family Services Manager is a pivotal management role within the Family Services occupational group, responsible for overseeing the operations of a major social services program. This position entails developing and implementing operating policies and procedures that align with the departmental and divisional goals and objectives. The Family Services Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective delivery of services by directing the resolution of service delivery problems and managing the work of direct services programs. This includes supervising Family Services Supervisors and other assigned staff, identifying issues and concerns, and providing leadership in the development of strategies aimed at enhancing the quality and array of agency programs and services. In this role, the Family Services Manager will manage and direct the activities and functions of a multifaceted social services program. This includes monitoring service delivery and implementing necessary organizational changes to achieve established goals and objectives. The manager will be responsible for developing and revising operating plans and procedures in accordance with the overall goals of the department, ensuring that policies and procedures facilitate effective service delivery. Additionally, the manager will plan, assign, review, and evaluate the work of supervisory staff to ensure the effective delivery of services. As a member of the senior management team, the Family Services Manager will participate in examining county and statewide needs and issues, collaborating closely with other managers to develop, implement, and monitor new or revised service programs or delivery methods. The role also involves working with other state, community, or private social service providers to ensure quality service delivery, particularly in the area of social services. Effective communication, both orally and in writing, is essential for success in this position, as is the ability to manage a multifaceted social services program and ensure quality service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct the activities and functions of a multifaceted social services program.
  • Monitor service delivery and implement organizational changes necessary to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Develop and/or revise operating plans and procedures in accordance with overall departmental/divisional goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the implementation of operating plans and procedures.
  • Ensure policies and procedures provide for effective delivery of services.
  • Plan, assign, review, and evaluate the work of supervisory staff responsible for effective delivery of services.
  • Participate as a member of senior management staff in examining county and statewide needs and issues.
  • Work closely with other managers in the development, implementation, and monitoring of new and/or revised service programs or delivery methods.
  • Collaborate with other state, community, or private social service providers to ensure quality service delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or any field with a minimum of two years of related experience in a Human Services area.
  • Considerable experience in assigned program area/human services programs.
  • Completion of required training in social services administration.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring, and managing case plans and overseeing caseload management.
  • Experience managing and supervising professionals involved in social services programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems in social services delivery and ensure quality service delivery.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license.
  • Experience in Foster Care, Child Protective Services, or Adult Protective Services.
  • Comprehensive experience in child welfare services, policies, and programs.
