About the position

The Family Services Specialist serves as the primary contact between the Early Learning Coalition and the public, focusing on outreach and support for families in the community. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and professionalism, as it involves assisting families with eligibility determinations for early learning programs and providing consumer education.

Responsibilities

  • Review parent profiles to ensure all required documentation is completed during the initial and re-determination process using the state-wide database system.
  • Determine family eligibility and the eligibility group for the School Readiness program.
  • Verify income, family size, and accurate determination of parent fees.
  • Assist parents with the uploading of documents in the DEL Management System.
  • Reschedule appointments as necessary.
  • Terminate clients who are no longer eligible at redetermination or are non-compliant with community-based agencies.
  • Review Provider's Attendance Roster for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with the Finance Department during provider payment processing to ensure corrections related to child attendance are completed before payments are released.
  • Update client files and contact parents of children terminated by childcare providers for non-attendance.
  • Determine pre-eligibility applications in the Single State-wide Information System for SR and VPK Programs.
  • Process requests for provider transfers in a timely manner.
  • Assist parents with navigation of the Single State-wide Information System to apply for services.
  • Initiate and complete school readiness county to county transfers and guardianship transfers.
  • Provide consumer education and customized referrals to parents looking for childcare based on their needs and preferences.
  • Assist walk-ins as needed and submit suspected fraud referrals to the supervisor.
  • Participate in outreach events as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Human Services or related field with two years of related experience, or four or more years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Valid Florida driver's license with no record of criminal driving offense or license suspension.
  • Successful completion of a Level 2 background check.
  • Knowledge of eligibility rules, applicable laws, regulations, and procedures governing early learning programs.
  • Basic computer skills, with further knowledge of Microsoft Office suite encouraged.

  • Bilingual capability due to the populations served.
  • Previous work with the public in a social service setting is preferred.
