About the position

As a Family Services Specialist at Addus Home Care, you will play a crucial role in supporting families in crisis through various programs offered by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Your primary focus will be on ensuring the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and their families. This position involves working directly with families to help them comply with court-ordered program participation and navigate through challenging situations. You will receive comprehensive training both in the office and on-the-job to equip you with the necessary skills to succeed in this role. In this position, you will assist families by providing services such as Family Habilitation Services, Visitation, and Housing support. Your responsibilities will include facilitating supervised and unsupervised visitations, where you will observe interactions between parents and children, providing guidance and redirection as needed. You will also be responsible for preparing written reports and maintaining accurate records of client progress, including documenting service dates, goals, and recommendations for future services. Additionally, you will play a vital role in locating housing and job opportunities for families or emancipated foster children in the housing program, helping them to live independently. This role requires a compassionate and dedicated individual who is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of families in need. You will be expected to attend all mandated trainings and report any instances of child abuse or neglect, ensuring the safety and well-being of the children you serve.

Responsibilities

  • Support families to prevent the permanent placement of children out of their home.
  • Provide transportation for parents and/or children to and from locations for supervised visitation.
  • Work directly with families in the home, teaching and demonstrating homemaking skills and parenting skills.
  • Utilize effective resources to assist families in crisis.
  • Observe all interactions between parents and children during visits and redirect if needed.
  • Prepare written reports and maintain accurate records of client progress.
  • Submit written client progress reports on a monthly basis, detailing scheduled dates, units of service, and specific goals/issues to be addressed.
  • Document whether each appointment was successful or missed and report on progress for each identified goal.
  • Make recommendations for future services based on observations and interactions.
  • Report all instances of child abuse and neglect to the appropriate authorities.
  • Attend all mandated trainings to stay updated on best practices and legal requirements.
  • Locate housing, jobs, and other community supports for families or emancipated foster children in the housing program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Associates degree or 2 years of child welfare experience is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Experience in social work, child care, or working with families is preferred.
  • Must have a dependable automobile, a valid driver's license, and proof of auto insurance.
  • Must pass required background checks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in social work or child care is preferred.
