About the position

The Family Services Supervisor for the Foster Care Unit in Frederick County, VA, is responsible for overseeing the Foster Care, Adoption, and Family Services unit. This role involves supervising and developing staff, monitoring case management services, and ensuring the effective delivery of social services to individuals and families. The supervisor will evaluate program effectiveness, recommend policy changes, and engage with community partners to enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead the Foster Care, Adoption, and Family Services unit.
  • Train and develop staff, including Family Services Specialists and assistants.
  • Monitor and evaluate case management services to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Set and enforce objectives for the quality and quantity of work performed by the unit.
  • Evaluate social service programs and program budgets.
  • Apply appropriate human resource practices in staff supervision.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with community partners and agencies.
  • Recommend policy changes based on program evaluations.
  • Interpret the program to other agencies and the public.
  • Participate in community planning and development of new resources.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or related experience in a Human Services area.
  • Considerable experience in Foster Care and Adoption.
  • Supervisory experience or work experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience working with community partners such as law enforcement and schools.
  • Experience interpreting and applying laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Experience in management, direction, and supervision of others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possession of a BSW or MSW degree.
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license.
  • Experience in working with Systems of Care.
  • Experience in working with the Juvenile Court System.
  • Experience in fiscal management of programs.
