About the position

The Family Services Worker position within the Department for Children & Families' Family Services Division is focused on ensuring the welfare of children, families, and communities in Vermont. The role involves conducting assessments related to child abuse and neglect, providing ongoing support to at-risk families, and collaborating with various stakeholders to foster safety and stability for vulnerable children. This position is essential in championing the rights and needs of children and families, making it a deeply meaningful and impactful career choice.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments related to child abuse and neglect or delinquency.
  • Provide ongoing support to at-risk families and children under state care.
  • Collaborate with parents, relatives, educators, law enforcement, and community service providers.
  • Engage with courts and foster parents to ensure compliance with the law.
  • Respond to crisis situations that may arise at any hour, including evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, or
  • Bachelor's degree with eighteen months of human services casework experience, including six months with a child or youth services caseload, or
  • Completion of 12 to 18 months as a Family Services Worker trainee in DCF.
