About the position

The Family Support Specialist is responsible for implementing the Federal Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five (PDGB5) project, collaborating with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services to strengthen the state's early childhood care and education systems. This role focuses on connecting families with resources, coordinating community partnerships, empowering families through education, and ensuring continuous quality improvement of services provided to families and children.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between families, child care providers, and community resources.
  • Provide referrals to relevant services and resources within the community.
  • Implement and maintain a follow-up process to ensure families receive necessary services.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with local early childhood programs and services.
  • Maintain knowledge of local and state early childhood resources.
  • Coordinate with existing support programs to maximize resources.
  • Develop community engagement strategies to maintain program visibility.
  • Organize training sessions and events to empower families with knowledge and skills.
  • Develop outreach strategies to engage families and promote available services.
  • Advocate for families' needs at community and state levels.
  • Document success stories and case studies to showcase program impact.
  • Provide regular reports outlining achievements and challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, family studies, child development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with families and children in a community-based setting.
  • Experience in direct practice with families and children.
  • Experience with project design and project management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Oklahoma's Child Care Resource & Referral network and early childhood programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual proficiency is preferred.
  • Experience in time management.
