About the position

The Family Support Worker at Lutheran Family Services provides essential in-home and community education and support services aimed at assisting families with parenting and home management challenges that may lead to child abuse or neglect. The role focuses on empowering families to create a safe and healthy home environment, enhancing self-esteem, and improving communication and conflict management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist families in building self-sufficiency through teaching parenting techniques and nurturing skills.
  • Facilitate family bonding and help families create respectful boundaries.
  • Teach home economics and care to families.
  • Maintain a caseload of 20 families within the Long Term Home Visitation Program, ensuring standards are met with at least bi-monthly home visits.
  • Assist with the implementation of program activities, including home visits and regular group activities for families.
  • Monitor service delivery to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement planning and duties for the program, including PAT model implementation.
  • Refer clients to necessary agency and community resources and follow up on services as needed.
  • Collaborate with area agencies to provide a continuum of care to clients.
  • Participate in staff meetings and individual supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree highly preferred, with previous related experience considered.
  • Experience in family support programming preferred, especially with children and families.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Commitment to uphold the mission, vision, and values of Lutheran Family Services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Successful completion of the National Family Support Certification exam or ability to complete within the first year of employment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
