About the position

The Family Therapist Intern position is designed for individuals pursuing a career in mental health therapy, specifically focusing on providing therapeutic services to Navajo children and families experiencing trauma. Under the close supervision of an independent licensed clinician, the intern will utilize various therapeutic techniques and cultural methodologies to assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for clients. This role involves home-based, school-based, and office-based therapeutic services, as well as administrative responsibilities related to client management and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychotherapy for clients using western and traditional cultural methodologies.
  • Assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for clients.
  • Utilize the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in practice.
  • Conduct home visits to clients as needed.
  • Maintain electronic case files and manage case documentation using the SOAP method.
  • Communicate with clients through phone, letter, or email to maintain contact and schedule appointments.
  • Prepare monthly reports, statistical reports, and performance criteria for the NTCCF office.
  • Compose and manage outgoing and incoming correspondence for the NTCCF office.
  • Provide administrative supervision to NTCCF office staff and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled meetings to enhance therapeutic services.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of psychological therapy and case management.
  • Skills in group and family therapy, confidentiality, and psychological evaluation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in both the Navajo and English languages.
