About the position

The Family Time Coordinator (Social Service Assistant) position at the Oregon Department of Human Services is designed for individuals passionate about strengthening families and supporting vulnerable children. This role involves coordinating family time visits, supervising interactions, and collaborating with caseworkers to ensure the well-being of children and families. The position is integral to the Child Welfare Program, contributing to a vision of transformation that promotes safety, health, and reduced trauma for children and young adults.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and document information from various stakeholders to plan family time visits.
  • Meet with parents and caregivers to review family time agreements and guidelines.
  • Supervise family time between children, parents, and family members in various settings.
  • Observe and document family time interactions.
  • Transport children to family time and other appointments as needed.
  • Collaborate with caseworkers to assess family time supervision needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in meetings related to family/team decision making.

Requirements

  • One year of experience assisting professionals in specialized social programs such as family services or children services.
  • Possession of a current certification in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Addiction Counseling Preparation, or Juvenile Corrections.
  • 45 quarter hours or 30 semester hours of college coursework in relevant fields such as sociology or psychology.
  • An associate degree in a field not closely related to Social Work/Human Services and six months of human services-related experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Crisis Management experience or knowledge in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with the public and clients through communication.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in changing environments and priorities.
  • Experience in trauma-informed approaches and cultural awareness.
  • Accurate documentation skills with minimal errors.
