About the position

The Family Time Coordinator (Social Service Assistant) plays a crucial role in the Oregon Department of Human Services by supporting caseworkers and facilitating family time visits for children and their families. This position is dedicated to strengthening family connections and ensuring that vulnerable children and families have the opportunity to create lasting memories together. The coordinator will handle administrative duties, supervise family interactions, and collaborate with various stakeholders to promote the well-being of children and families in the Child Welfare Program.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and document information from caseworkers, children, parents, relatives, and other resources to plan family time visits.
  • Meet with parents and caregivers to review family time agreements and guidelines.
  • Supervise family time between children, parents, and family members in various settings.
  • Observe and document family time interactions.
  • Transport children to family time and assist with other appointments as needed.
  • Collaborate with caseworkers to assess the level and location of family time supervision on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in meetings related to family/team decision making.

Requirements

  • One year of experience assisting professionals in specialized social programs such as family services, children services, or mental health services.
  • Possession of a current certification in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related fields.
  • 45 quarter hours or 30 semester hours of college coursework in relevant fields such as sociology, psychology, or human services.
  • An associate degree in a non-related field with six months of human services experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Crisis management experience or knowledge in conflict resolution and de-escalation.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients and service providers.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with a trauma-informed approach and cultural awareness.
  • Accurate documentation skills with attention to detail.
