About the position

The Farm Production Administrator/Assistant Farm Manager at Southern Oregon University is responsible for the management and administrative oversight of student staff, facilities, and programs at the university's organic farm. This role supports marketing and sales through harvesting and delivery, collaborates with the Farm Manager to advance sustainability initiatives, and engages in educational outreach and program partnerships. The position aims to promote sustainable practices and foster a community committed to ecological leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support services including purchasing supplies, invoicing, and hiring staff.
  • Develop annual strategic farming plans including yield calculations and operational budgets.
  • Lead and direct farm operations such as weeding, harvesting, and soil management.
  • Oversee education and outreach programs in partnership with local organizations.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise undergraduate and graduate student staff.

Requirements

  • Two years of college-level courses in biological science or equivalent training and experience.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business Administration, Environmental Management, Horticulture, or related fields (preferred).
  • Demonstrated project management and collaboration skills.
  • Prior experience in agricultural or horticultural management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in environmental education.

  • Ability to engage in physical work in outdoor settings.
