About the position

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Fashion Market Editor to join the Off Duty fashion team. This role is integral to the development of engaging women's, men's, and accessories stories that not only highlight current trends but also address lifestyle challenges faced by our readers. The editor will collaborate closely with the team to ensure that all content adheres to the journalistic and ethical standards of The Wall Street Journal, while also being service-oriented in nature. The position requires a keen eye for fashion, as the editor will be responsible for identifying, sourcing, and photographing relevant clothing and accessories, as well as managing high-resolution photography needs. In this role, the Fashion Market Editor will cover a wide range of fashion markets, attending industry appointments and fashion shows to stay informed about the latest trends and developments. Building strong relationships with fashion brands and discovering new designers will be crucial to keeping Off Duty's style coverage fresh and relevant. The editor will also oversee all fashion elements within the photo studio, guiding photography and styling, and managing the wardrobe logistics. Additionally, the editor will act as a liaison between various departments, including editorial, art, photo, and digital teams, contributing to the planning of digital presentations and optimizing stories for SEO and user experience. The role demands excellent organizational skills, as the editor will be responsible for story planning and scheduling, ensuring that all projects are executed smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of fashion trends, a sophisticated visual sense, and the ability to present both high-fashion concepts and accessible market options. Digital savvy is essential, with experience in crafting social media strategies and SEO-friendly content being a significant advantage. The position requires an independently motivated work ethic, with the ability to manage multiple projects and act as a clear and organized point of contact for various teams.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate stories in line with Off Duty's service-oriented agenda and meet the journalistic and ethical standards of The Wall Street Journal.
  • Cover the broad range of fashion market, going on industry appointments and attending fashion shows as needed.
  • Build strong relationships with fashion brands and seek out new and interesting designers.
  • Manage all fashion elements of the photo studio, guiding and approving photography, styling, and managing wardrobe logistics.
  • Serve as the liaison between editors, art, photo, and digital departments, contributing to digital presentations and optimizing stories for SEO.
  • Track stories' digital performance and contribute to overall user experience.
  • Act as the point person for all story planning and schedule organization matters.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in print and digital fashion journalism and/or market.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Thorough grasp of fashion trends and sophisticated taste level.
  • Strong story-building skills and original packaging instincts.
  • Digital savvy with experience in social media strategies and SEO-friendly content.
