About the position

The Sewing Instructor at Petite Designers will be responsible for teaching sewing and fashion design to children aged 7-15. This part-time role involves facilitating a positive learning environment, guiding students through various sewing projects, and ensuring that the classroom is well-maintained. The instructor will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and lifelong learning among students.

Responsibilities

  • Identify the educational needs of students
  • Facilitate sewing projects and/or classes
  • Teach kids ages 7 to 15 on basic fashion design practices
  • Give exact instructions on how the projects should be assembled
  • Maintain the classroom clean and in good condition at all times

Requirements

  • Sewing experience is a must
  • Previous experience in teaching kids (ages 7 to 15) is a plus
  • Technical skills in pattern making, cutting, grading, and garment construction are a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and creative thinking
  • Ability to solve problems with garment assembly
  • Patience and a good attitude to deal with kids
  • Ability to maintain discipline during class
  • Ability in draping and mannequin work
  • Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills
  • Good communication skills to explain ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Ability to develop a professional rapport with parents and guardians
  • Ability to develop and complete projects/classes without continued direct supervision
  • Ability to learn from students' participation and show compassion

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to draw, either by hand or digitally is a plus
