About the position

The Fast and Fresh Clerk at Hy-Vee Food Stores is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the store. This role involves operating the cash register, assisting customers with their needs, and maintaining the quality and quantity of products in the Fast and Fresh department.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Assists customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, and loading or unloading heavy items.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
• Operates cash register accurately and scans product, reporting improper cash levels in the cash drawer.
• Redeems promotional coupons, food stamps, and completes credit-card charge transactions, as well as counts back change and issues receipts.
• Places merchandise in bags or boxes and gives packages to customers.
• Assists with inventory of the department and receives and checks in delivered merchandise.
• Ensures proper maintenance of lot; shovels sidewalk of snow, spreads ice melt, and hoses down lot.
• Cleans registers, restrooms, break room, backroom, sweeps and mops the floor, and tends to supply needs.

Requirements

• Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; and guide people.
