About the position

The Fast and Fresh Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the store. This role involves operating the cash register, assisting customers with their needs, and maintaining the quality and quantity of products in the Fast and Fresh department.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible.
• Assists customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, and making note of customer suggestions or requests.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Operates cash register accurately and scans product, reporting improper cash levels in the cash drawer.
• Redeems promotional coupons, food stamps, receives cash, checks, completes credit-card charge transactions, and issues receipts.
• Places merchandise in bags or boxes and gives packages to customers.
• Assists with inventory of the department and checks in delivered merchandise.
• Ensures proper maintenance of the lot, including snow removal and spreading ice melt.
• Cleans registers, restrooms, break room, and backroom; sweeps and mops the floor.
• Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.

Requirements

• Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; and guide people.
