About the position

The Fast and Fresh Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the store. This role involves operating the cash register, assisting customers with their needs, and maintaining the quality and quantity of products in the Fast and Fresh department. The clerk plays a vital role in enhancing the shopping experience and supporting the overall operations of the store.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible.
• Assists customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, and making note of customer suggestions or requests.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Operates cash register accurately and scans product, reporting improper cash levels in the cash drawer.
• Redeems promotional coupons, food stamps, receives cash, checks, completes credit-card charge transactions, and issues receipts.
• Places merchandise in bags or boxes and gives packages to customers.
• Assists with inventory of the department and checks in delivered merchandise.
• Ensures proper maintenance of the lot, including shoveling snow and spreading ice melt.
• Removes trash inside and out in a timely manner and maintains cleanliness of the work area.
• Orders merchandise and supplies as needed and prices products for customers.

Requirements

• Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; and guide people.
