About the position

The Fast and Fresh Area Human Resources Manager at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing efficient and friendly service across multiple retail locations. This role involves coordinating various administrative duties related to human resources, including recruitment, hiring, payroll management, performance reviews, and employee counseling. The manager works closely with store management to enhance employee satisfaction and retention, ensuring compliance with employment regulations and maintaining a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly service by exhibiting caring and concern in all employee interactions.
  • Counsels with store management and employees regarding performance reviews, scheduling, benefits, and wages.
  • Handles investigation, documentation, and resolution of employee issues, concerns, and conflicts.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, including sourcing, drug testing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Coordinates longevity and retention programs and employee transfers between stores.
  • Attends store management meetings and conducts stay and exit interviews.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment practices.
  • Processes payroll and manages adjustments, including special pay and missed pay raises.
  • Acts as the Insurance and leave of absence coordinator, and manages Workers Compensation claims.
  • Coordinates quarterly employee meetings and store events, such as holiday parties.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and loading/unloading heavy items.

Requirements

  • High school diploma plus 2-3 years of additional schooling in HR and Accounting, along with Hy-Vee experience.
  • Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions with limited standardization.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills for multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to interview, counsel, and advise employees effectively.
  • Capable of compiling and analyzing employment data for strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal communication.
  • Experience in creating a culture of engagement, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
