About the position

The Senior Director of Software & Systems Engineering at FAST Labs is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the performance and strategic direction of the Software & Systems Engineering organization. This position involves leading a large team through a digital transformation, implementing best practices in engineering processes, and ensuring alignment with BAE Systems' overarching engineering goals. The role emphasizes collaboration, talent development, and continuous improvement to meet the complex challenges faced by defense and commercial customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a best-in-class team of software and systems engineers that deliver excellent results
• Cultivate engineering and operational excellence through best practices, agile practices, metrics and continuous learning
• Partner with other business area leaders to ensure business objectives and strategy are achieved
• Attract, retain and grow senior managers and engineering talent to support the business
• Identify, maintain, and develop key skills required to meet business objectives in support of multi-year strategy
• Develop and lead continuous improvement activities and ensure adoption within the organization
• Establish goals and standards of performance, create budgets, staffing plans, and short and long-term strategic roadmaps/plans
• Understand industry trends and best practices to ensure BAE Systems develops and maintains the capabilities required to provide technical discriminators
• Provide technical leadership, leverage and apply modern SW and Systems development technologies (LLMs, Kubernetes, MBSE, Cloud computing, etc), and lead enterprise wide initiatives
• Perform duties as assigned to support shifting business dynamics

Requirements

• A Bachelor s Degree in engineering
• Minimum of 12 years of engineering management experience
• Active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain a TS/SCI
• Proven track record of increasing responsibilities in managing organizations of significant complexities
• Strong technical background in software or systems engineering

Nice-to-haves

• Thorough knowledge of DoD R D approaches and organizations
• Proven ability to lead a diverse organization across multiple sites
• Knowledge of and experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
• Proven ability to lead Agile, DevSecOps and digital transformation initiatives
• Active TS/SCI clearance
