About the position

The Academic Teacher position at the Northwest Florida Reception Center involves teaching academic subjects to students in a correctional facility. The role requires planning and conducting classes, supervising inmates, evaluating student progress, and participating in professional development activities. The teacher will also assist in budget preparation for the education program.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects.
• Utilize various teaching techniques to assist students with their educational advancement.
• Supervise inmates assigned to the class and maintain order and discipline in the classroom.
• Conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
• Evaluate students' progress and administer grades and tests.
• Counsel and advise individuals regarding their program progress and personal concerns.
• Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum development and professional growth.
• Assist in budget preparation and processing purchase requests for the education program.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
• Non-certified applicants must obtain a State of Florida Educator's Certificate within 12 months of hire.
