About the position

The Academic Teacher position at Madison Correctional Institution is responsible for teaching assigned academic subjects to inmates. The role involves planning and conducting classes, supervising students, evaluating their progress, and maintaining classroom discipline. The teacher will also participate in curriculum development and professional development activities.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects.
• Utilize various teaching techniques to assist students with educational advancement.
• Supervise inmates assigned to the class, conduct roll calls, and maintain attendance records.
• Ensure order and discipline are maintained in the classroom.
• Evaluate students' progress and administer grades and tests.
• Counsel and advise individuals regarding their program progress and personal concerns.
• Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development.
• Assist in budget preparation and processing purchase requests for the education program.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
• Non-certified applicants must obtain a State of Florida Educator's Certificate within 12 months of hire.
