About the position

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) serves as the Director of the Office of Information Technology at the Florida Department of Corrections. This senior management position is responsible for leading the department's IT modernization strategy, overseeing daily IT operations, and implementing large-scale IT projects. The CIO collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure that technology systems meet organizational requirements and supports public safety initiatives in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Director of the Office of Information Technology, reporting directly to the Chief of Staff.
  • Implement large-scale IT projects and lead the Department's information technology modernization strategy.
  • Oversee daily IT operations to ensure mission-critical responsibilities are met.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve technology goals.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement within the IT department.
  • Foster strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan for the annual legislative cycle, including bill reviews and budget requests for IT initiatives.
  • Utilize IT governance and develop a strong information security posture.
  • Advise Department leadership on emerging technologies and digital trends.
  • Coordinate and manage outsourced IT resources and vendors.
  • Mentor and develop IT staff, conducting performance appraisals and setting objectives.
  • Oversee the IT annual operating budget and approve purchases of technology hardware/software.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in an executive IT management role.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and management skills for effective leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing large-scale IT projects within strict timelines.
  • Skilled in delivering high-level IT briefs to executives.
  • Extensive expertise in IT applications, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and governance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of data analysis, budgeting, procurement, and business operations.
  • Ability to travel 10-25%.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Information technology experience in both public/government and commercial sectors.
  • Experience managing a CJIS Compliant organization.
  • Experience with Microsoft-centric organizations and Azure cloud services.
  • Familiarity with State of Florida budgeting/procurement processes.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • CISM, CISSP, ACP, CSM, CEH, or CPT Certifications.
