About the position

Voyatek, formerly GCOM Software and OnCore Consulting, is seeking a UX/Product Designer to join the NYC Fire Department of New York team located in Brooklyn, NY. This position is integral to the BTDS application development team, where the designer will help shape the vision for our products and drive cohesive narratives across multiple platforms and touch points. The role emphasizes the importance of creating amazing user experiences that engage, enlighten, and transform our customers' journeys. As a UX/Product Designer, you will collaborate with engineers and business partners to ensure that the design aligns with user needs and business goals. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of UX design principles and best practices, with a strong portfolio showcasing their problem-solving process and finished design work. The designer will be responsible for creating overall information architecture, user stories, workflows, wireframes, clickable prototypes, and final visual designs. This role requires the ability to think conceptually and systematically, considering the big picture while ensuring quality and detail at a granular level. The designer will thrive in a fast-paced agile environment, utilizing strong analytical and communication skills to present design rationales to senior leadership. Responsibilities

  • Help shape the vision for products and drive cohesive narratives across multiple platforms and touch points.
  • Create amazing user experiences that engage, enlighten, and transform the customer's journey.
  • Collaborate with engineers and business partners to ensure design alignment with user needs and business goals.
  • Create overall information architecture, user stories, workflows, wireframes, clickable prototypes, and final visual designs.
  • Present design rationales to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience designing responsive web applications and/or mobile-first applications.
  • A comprehensive understanding of UX Design and best practices.
  • Experience designing using either Figma or Moqups.
  • A portfolio of work that showcases problem-solving processes along with finished design work.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally, translating complex research, data, and customer strategies into innovative end-to-end experience design concepts.
  • Ability to lead large-scale initiatives, prioritizing work accordingly and taking ownership of completion.
  • Ability to think conceptually and systematically, considering the big picture while ensuring quality and detail at a granular level.
  • Sharp written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HTML and CSS.
  • Ability to design vector graphics using Illustrator or similar tools.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced agile environment.
