About the position

The Federal Accountant position involves performing various accounting functions related to travel accounting, compliance reporting, and Department of Energy (DOE) reporting. The role requires collaboration with finance teams and program managers, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and analyzing accounting data for accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of accounting functions for travel accounting, compliance reporting, and DOE Reporting.
• Review and analyze accounting data for compliance with policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and DOE/NNSA requirements.
• Interface and collaborate with the Finance Accounting and FP&A teams, Program Managers, Project Analysts, and Travelers as needed.
• Process employee travel requests in compliance with federal regulations.
• Assist with ServiceNow case management and LaunchPad tickets.
• Reconcile travel/payroll related accounts.
• Prepare and submit assigned journal entries and account reconciliations and maintain working papers required to record accounting activities.
• Maintain subsidiary ledgers to support accounting control data and reconcile account balances.
• Develop data to be used in determining cost variances.
• Analyze variances, prepare explanations, and investigate significant variances and account balances.
• Analyze data to identify recurring problems, then investigate and recommend corrective action.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 2 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance.
• Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management.
• Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Federal Travel Regulations.
• Experience with large travel platforms (Expense Anywhere, Concur, AdTrav, etc.).
