About the position

Operate a commercial motor vehicle in a safe, courteous, and professional manner. Maintain compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations as well as company policies and procedures. Provide on-time delivery of undamaged freight to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operates a company-owned and provided commercial motor vehicle.
  • Effectively communicates with dispatch as required.
  • Physically meets the demands of required duties as described in the Physical Requirements section of this Job Profile.
  • Inspects the truck/trailers for any defects that may affect the safe operation of the unit.
  • Reports any defects or problems with the truck/trailers to the appropriate individuals.
  • Maintains all required paperwork associated with each particular load.
  • Reviews paperwork to determine the nature of the load, customer location, delivery route and that the delivery time corresponds with dispatch instructions.
  • Ensures the proper preparation of hazardous waste manifest.
  • Operates pickup/trailer in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations regarding hours of service.
  • Complies with all company and customer requirements on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Properly maintains all records required by the company as well as governmental agencies such as drivers' logs, fuel receipts, mileage records, scale tickets, repair receipts, etc.
  • Reports all accidents and/or work-related injuries (regardless of severity) to the appropriate manager including Safety Team.
  • Maintains proper communication with manager on status.
  • Maintains compliance with all other applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations not listed above.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required along with a Class 'A' CDL Operators License and DOT Physical.
  • 1 year of verifiable experience driving large commercial vehicle required.
  • Knowledge of bio-security precautions relating to pork production facilities and driving/hauling equipment.
  • Skill in operating pickup/trailer in bad weather, hazardous driving conditions, and poor roads.
  • Skill in hooking/unhooking various commercial pickup/trailer units, raising and lowering the landing gear, operating the 5th wheel release lever, opening and closing tailgates, and fueling vehicles and checking engine oil and coolants.
  • Ability to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 11 hours without a 10 hour break.
  • Ability to perform occasional squatting, kneeling, bending and climbing during the inspection of truck equipment and loaded materials.
