About the position

The Festival Environmental Graphic Designer is a pivotal role within the Sundance Institute, responsible for the design and production of large-scale environmental graphics specifically for the Sundance Film Festival. This position operates under the guidance of the Creative Director and plays a crucial part in conveying the festival's concept and spirit through visual wayfinding elements. The role is temporary and full-time, spanning from October 16, 2024, to January 17, 2025, requiring the designer to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet critical deadlines and respond to on-call needs as they arise. The position is based in Park City, UT, and involves a hybrid work model, allowing for both onsite and remote work throughout the employment period. Key responsibilities include creating media-rich graphic visuals that enhance the festival's identity through large-scale designs, such as building wraps and banners that effectively communicate the festival's messaging. The designer will also be tasked with producing additional materials as requested, ensuring that all designs adhere to departmental schedules to meet deadlines. Collaboration is essential, as the designer will work closely with the Environmental Coordinator and various departments to assess and fulfill graphic needs. Additionally, the role involves organizing, filing, and archiving all artwork files, as well as completing a comprehensive written post-festival wrap report as directed. This position is ideal for someone with a strong design background and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce large-scale environmental graphics for the Sundance Film Festival.
  • Create media-rich graphic visuals to enhance the festival's identity.
  • Design visually appealing building wraps, banners, and other materials conveying festival messaging.
  • Ensure designs adhere to departmental schedules and deadlines.
  • Provide graphic assets to outside vendors and partners as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Coordinator and various departments to determine graphic needs.
  • Organize, file, and archive all artwork files.
  • Complete a comprehensive written post-Festival wrap report as directed.

Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • 2 years of design experience with a background in graphics, brand strategy, and print design.
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience in signage and wayfinding design, including material specification.
  • Knowledge of printing production methods, fabrication, and installation.
  • Ability to manipulate digital images, including resizing, cropping, and color correction.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong typography skills.
