About the position

The FGD Attendant is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Flue Gas Desulfurization Scrubber and associated water treatment facilities at a coal-fired power plant. This role requires a multi-skilled individual who ensures the safe operation of equipment, performs repairs, and maintains logs and records related to the scrubber process.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the Flue Gas Desulfurization Scrubber and associated water treatment facilities.
• Ensure the safe operation of equipment used in the scrubber process.
• Perform skilled electro-mechanical repair work on scrubber and water treating equipment and instrumentation.
• Maintain required logs and records, monitoring and making adjustments to FGD equipment as necessary.
• Communicate conditions of the facility and equipment to others.
• Operate computers and printers, responding to verbal and auditory signals from the operating system.
• Perform equipment isolation and tagging.
• Set up rigging for installing/removing equipment and operate forklifts and manlifts.
• Meet physical requirements of the job, including lifting and carrying equipment.

Requirements

• Two years post-secondary education in power plants, mechanical or electrical curriculum, or three years of industrial related experience.
• Successful completion of entry-level exam and the FGD Attendant Entry Level Test.
• Understanding of basic electrical theory and cause and effect logic.
• Competent computer skills and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work without direct supervision and communicate effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Related military experience is acceptable.
