About the position

The Cable Technician role at Parsons involves providing support for cable management and installation work as part of the Technical Support Services Contract awarded by the FAA. This position is crucial for ensuring the successful execution of various activities that support the FAA's Capital Investment Plan modernization efforts. The technician will work primarily at the William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and will be responsible for assembling, installing, and managing various types of data cables while adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and arrange cable material and equipment.
  • Explain and verify service orders, drawings, specifications, particular needs, and instructions.
  • Run, pull, stop and splice copper and fiber optic cables, such as CAT5, SE, CAT6, low voltage cables, and fiber.
  • Mount telecom equipment while adhering to best practices, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Choose and verify cable pathways, conduct site surveys for clients, assist in designing, creating and implementing standards and specifications.
  • Coordinate the progress of cabling projects with third-party contractors, maintain all documents related to cabling, carry out installation of cable supports and pulling network cable pathways, testing and troubleshooting cabling issues.
  • Provide field measurements and report results as requested.
  • Manage and maintain exact inventory for parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Attend training meetings and learn the measures explained to them to use the essential personal protection equipment.
  • Collaborate and work in a team setting.
  • Maintain good relations with clients by listening to and sorting out their issues or escalating them to management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of work experience laying out and pulling various types of data cable such as CAT5, SE, CAT6, low voltage cables or fiber.
  • Must be able to pass government background check.
  • Familiarity with installation of cables under a data center raised floor system.
  • Experience with cabling and conversant with the installation of copper cables.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in data center environments.
  • Working knowledge of data cable types and specifications.
  • Associate's or equivalent technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent).
