About the position

The Fiber Optic Technician Apprentice position at On Target is an entry-level role designed to provide support in testing and splicing fiber optic cables. The role emphasizes safety, adherence to standards, and effective communication with internal and external teams. The position requires daily in-person reporting to a field office in Maine and offers opportunities for skill development and advancement within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Report in-person daily to a field office in Maine.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of construction safety and maintenance standards.
  • Learn to perform testing and splicing of fiber optic and copper cable under supervision.
  • Work on/around telecommunications lines and equipment, both overhead and underground.
  • Install fiber optic cable, both overhead and underground.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and instruments of the trade, ensuring maintenance is performed.
  • Read, interpret, and work from sketches, diagrams, and work plans.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to meet project requirements and schedules.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including overtime and emergency duty as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; relevant college/technical school training or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of utility design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required licenses/certifications/documents.
  • Professional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DOT Medical Examiner's Card.
  • Ability to climb utility poles and/or work out of an aerial lift device.
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate/drive trade-related equipment/vehicles.
