About the position

The Fiber Splicing Technician at DFX Technical Services is responsible for the maintenance and installation of fiber optic systems in both inside and outside plant environments. This role requires a motivated individual who can work independently and as part of a cross-functional team, ensuring the integrity and performance of fiber networks through skilled splicing and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Prep and splice fiber using mechanical fusion methods.
• Splice large count fibers via tube or ribbon method.
• Access the fiber optic splicer enclosure and splice necessary fibers from a ladder.
• Perform mid-sheath live network splicing.
• Troubleshoot and repair outages on a live network.
• Complete central office, rack, head-end, and HUB terminations.
• Utilize optical test equipment such as OTDR, Fiber Identifier, and Fiber Scope for troubleshooting and repairs.
• Prep, tray, and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to 288 count, including performing ring cuts when needed.
• Conduct testing and turn-ups of subscriber drops in both inside and outside plant environments.
• Perform power meter testing.
• Complete all other duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year of experience in fiber splicing.
• Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
• Ability to read splicing matrix and design/construction drawings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or equivalent for documentation and retrieval of splice information.
• Ability to operate a bucket truck safely.
• Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot and detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
