About the position

The Fiber Splicing Manager at RLM Underground is responsible for overseeing the installation and maintenance of fiber optics, ensuring quality control in both buried and aerial optic facilities. This role involves supervising contractor and in-house work, conducting field inspections, and managing the splicing process to meet technical specifications and company standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the installation and maintenance of fiber optics, including performance and fusion splicing.
• Conduct regular field inspections of fiber splicing layouts to ensure quality control and adherence to specifications.
• Assist in the development of splicing plans and estimate future fiber plant usage.
• Document work processes by submitting daily reports of completed work.
• Maintain construction and layout guides to ensure quality control.
• Ensure timely completion of work while adhering to quality guidelines.

Requirements

• Experience in underground and aerial fiber optic splicing.
• Technical training in an industry-related trade certification or education program is preferred.
• Excellent manual dexterity and proficiency in using hand tools and equipment for splicing fiber.
• Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental protection practices related to construction processes.
• Ability to operate company vehicles and properly tow/back-up trailers.
• Solid understanding of current construction practices and familiarity with construction documents.
• Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule, and budget.
• Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret needs, and identify solutions.
• Experience operating and performing work in a bucket truck or man-lift.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting 50 lbs. regularly and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
