About the position

In this position as a Field Application Engineer specializing in Data Center Cooling, you will serve as a domain authority for nVent Data Solutions products, providing critical support and expertise across various nVent functions including Sales, Product Management, and Operations. Your role will involve offering first-line product support to both customers and colleagues, ensuring that they can effectively utilize nVent Cooling and Power products and services. You will evaluate customer requests for quotations (RFQs) and develop comprehensive costing and quotes that include both technical and commercial content. Additionally, you will provide technical application assistance to identify modified and engineered products tailored to customer specifications and application requirements. Your responsibilities will also include preparing and submitting quotations and proposals for non-standard products using internal Configure Price Quote (CPQ) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. You will conduct product training sessions for customers and distributors, ensuring they are well-versed in quoting tools and product applications. Compliance documentation will be a key part of your role, as you will prepare these documents to meet customer specifications. You will lead strategic projects aimed at product improvements, cost reductions, product consolidation, and the development of new products. Furthermore, you will review training literature for technical accuracy, including installation guides, operations manuals, and online learning resources. As a representative of nVent, you will participate in industry codes and standards committees, providing valuable market-specific intelligence and feedback on products and services to the commercial teams. You will assist these teams with voice-of-customer (VOC) visits and collaborate closely with the Sales Leader to plan activities. In the closing phase of projects, you will identify key technical support needs and advise your manager on significant developments and decisions that require their approval. This role offers the flexibility to work 100% remotely while requiring an average of 30% travel across the US and Canada, making it an exciting opportunity for those with a strong technical background in Data Center solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a domain authority for nVent Data Solutions products.
  • Provide first-line product support to customers and colleagues.
  • Evaluate customer RFQs and build costing/quotes with technical and commercial content.
  • Provide technical application assistance to identify modified and engineered products based on customer specifications.
  • Prepare and submit quotations & proposals of non-standard products using internal CPQ and ERP systems.
  • Conduct product training for customers and train distributors on quoting tools.
  • Prepare compliance documents against customer specifications.
  • Lead strategic projects for product improvements, cost reduction, product consolidation, and new product development.
  • Review training literature for technical accuracy including installation guides and procedures, operations manuals, and online learning.
  • Represent nVent in industry codes and standards committees.
  • Provide market-specific intelligence and feedback on products and services to the commercial teams.
  • Assist commercial teams with voice-of-customer (VOC) visits.
  • Plan activities together with the Sales Leader.
  • Identify the project in the closing phase with the sales team and provide vital technical support.
  • Advise their manager about significant situations, developments, and occurrences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical, mechanical, or applications engineering or equivalent work experience in Data Center engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical application's role supporting Data Center solutions.
  • Ability to work 100% remotely and travel on average 30% across mainly the US and Canada.
  • Understanding of High-Density Liquid Cooling Solutions in the Data Center space.
  • Strong technical background with Data Center Power needs at the rack or PDU level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first mentality.
