About the position

As a MCU Field Application Engineer at NXP, you will play a pivotal role in the Customer Application Support team, becoming an integral part of a global technical community dedicated to providing exceptional technical support to NXP customers and their projects. Your primary responsibility will be to drive demand creation and design-in activities at customer sites, collaborating closely with NXP's business lines. You will leverage your technical expertise to support NXP's sales staff and engage with the technical community to address technical issues and discuss the future roadmap of your customers. Your ability to effectively communicate the NXP value message will be crucial in increasing our market share and ensuring customer satisfaction. In this role, you will be accountable for delivering premium technical support in a timely manner to assigned customers. You will lead initiatives to secure design wins in your target accounts and target technology, conducting proof of concept, solution design, and demonstrations to showcase NXP's solutions. By synthesizing customer and competitive insights, you will contribute to improving product definitions and roadmaps. You will also direct NXP's design-in campaigns for assigned customers, ensuring early involvement in their technology roadmaps and facilitating the timely flow of information between NXP and the customer. Your responsibilities will include qualifying sales opportunities based on customer technical requirements and establishing NXP's value proposition relative to competitors. You will own the system software architect role, ensuring that the broader technical team understands the software value proposition for system proposals. Building strong relationships with sales team members, business lines, partners, and customers will be essential to support sales objectives. Additionally, you will analyze customer technical objectives using relevant data gathering techniques to enhance the sales team's effectiveness and responsiveness to customer needs. You will also assist in educating Field Sales Engineers on new technologies and product features, developing a comprehensive understanding of target application spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver premium technical support in content and time to assigned customers
  • Accountable to drive design wins in their target accounts and target technology
  • Lead proof of concept, solution design and demonstrations to secure NXP solution's design-in
  • Synthesize customer and competitive insights to improve product definition and roadmaps
  • Direct the NXP design-in campaigns for assigned customers to ensure early involvement in the customer's technology roadmap
  • Understand and communicate how ecosystem solutions can position NXP in the best possible manner
  • Qualify sales opportunities in terms of customer technical requirements and establish NXP's value proposition relative to the competition
  • Qualify the value of NXP's products and quantify the technical benefits derived from choosing NXP
  • Own the system software architect role to ensure broader technical team understands the software value proposition for system proposals
  • Build relationships with sales team members, business lines, partners and customers in support of sales team objectives
  • Analyze customer's technical objectives through relevant data gathering techniques
  • Assist in educating Field Sales Engineers on new technologies and product features
  • Develop system level knowledge of target application spaces

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years development engineering or applications support of microcontroller based embedded systems
  • Field Application Engineering experience in the semiconductor industry
  • Experience with C and C++ and a record of developing embedded firmware
  • Demonstrated knowledge of typical SoC hardware interfaces (Ethernet, MIPI, SDIO, LP DDR3/4, Quad/Octal SPI, USB2.0/3.0, UART, SPI, I2C)
  • Knowledge of ARM Cortex M and A based register programming models
  • Experience using Real-Time OS systems: FreeRTOS and Zephyr preferred
  • Knowledge in embedded Linux a plus: kernel and user-space and uboot environments
  • Hands on knowledge of graphics and video subsystems and related software drivers helpful
  • Ability to read, understand and review schematics and provide design recommendations highly desirable
  • Willing to travel (up to 50%, mostly Eastern US area focused)
  • Knowledge in wireless protocols WiFi, ZigBee, BLE, etc. is preferred
  • Experienced in providing technical training to sales staff and distributors
  • Proven track record of quickly learning new technologies
  • Develop system level understanding of target end-applications
