About the position

The Field Application Engineer will serve as the primary technical resource for industrial and commercial clients in the San Jose area, requiring extensive travel to customer sites. This role involves providing software installation, troubleshooting, and training for Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), while also consulting with clients to determine their system requirements and ensuring successful project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with customers, contractors, and end-users in a team environment.
  • Provide software installation, upgrade, and start-up services for Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) software.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and device communications and provide customer training for the commissioned system.
  • Consult with customers to determine system operation requirements.
  • Specify and purchase hardware/software as required by project.
  • Configure and commission Schneider Electric and third-party hardware.
  • Document the as-built system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and client interaction skills.
  • Experience with meters (troubleshooting and upgrade/installation).
  • Knowledge of, and ability to interpret contract specifications and electrical drawing packages.
  • Experience setting up communications with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems, Building Automation Systems, Systems Integration, and/or Energy Management Systems.
  • Passion for helping clients use electrical power more efficiently.
  • Confidence and ability to take a project through completion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working around electrical equipment such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, etc.
  • Good understanding of industry standard communication protocols with an emphasis on Modbus, IEC 61850, and BACnet.
  • Knowledgeable in computer networking architectures, topologies, and hardware.
  • Knowledgeable in computer programming languages (Visual Basic, C/C++, Java, etc.), databases (SQL), and HTML development.
  • HMI configuration experience, including graphical screen development.
  • Direct experience with Schneider Electric proprietary software such as Power Monitoring Expert, Power SCADA Expert, and Wonderware.
