About the position

Picarro is seeking a Field Application Engineer (FAE) to join our Energy Field Operations & Engineering Team. This role is pivotal for ensuring customer satisfaction through a hands-on approach and strong technical skills. The FAE will be responsible for supporting both pre-sales and post-sales activities with major North American utility companies, interfacing with new customers, and conducting field demonstrations and trials of Picarro's flagship solution at customer sites. The FAE will primarily focus on the installation, training, and ongoing support of Picarro's Surveyor hardware and software solutions for existing utility customers and service partners. This position will also involve collaboration with Sales and Client Program Managers to secure key accounts and assist Field Operations Management in developing service providers and partners. As the primary technical support champion, the FAE will guide customers through the deployment of the hardware/software platform solution, ensuring they receive the necessary support and resources. Additionally, the FAE will manage local inventories of spare parts and materials, facilitating material movement for remote teams as needed. In this role, you will deliver hardware and software installations, support customer onboarding, and address field inquiries with detailed technical responses. You will provide 24/7 remote field support as required and promote new use cases and applications of the Picarro Surveyor. Being proactive in identifying and solving potential issues before they arise is crucial. You will also support on-site customer field trials and pilots, operating the Surveyor and consolidating results while logging customer issues and tracking their resolutions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver hardware/software installation and support customer onboarding
  • Address field questions and respond appropriately, providing detailed technical answers along with technical documentation as required
  • Provide remote, field support 24/7 as required
  • Promote and instruct customers in new and alternative use cases/applications made possible by advancements in Picarro Surveyor
  • Act as a proactive customer advocate, identifying and solving problems before they surface
  • Support on-site Customer Field Trials and Pilots, operating the Surveyor and consolidating results
  • Log customer issues and track resolutions

Requirements

  • BS in an Engineering or Science discipline
  • Field experience or hands-on practice or knowledge of multi-disciplinary system design and development (systems such as electrical, electronics, computerized, mechanical, optical, or a combination of these)
  • Experience working in a customer-facing role
  • Microsoft and Android operating systems update skills
  • Strong wireless environment debug skills
  • Software or hardware design experience is a benefit
  • Clean, detailed and clear documentation practitioner
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Ability to travel to customer sites and conferences required
  • Strong organization, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter that can work independently, make necessary decisions and follow through with action plans

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional technical and professional credentials relating to aforementioned skills would be advantageous
  • Fluent in Spanish is a plus
  • 3 to 6 years of experience in a technical customer support role
  • Automotive hardware/electrical knowledge a plus
